Bulk customer upload

Updated over 7 months ago

Creating a great customer management system starts with having a detailed database at your fingertips. With Mash Commerce Cloud™, you can easily upload customer data in bulk, making sure your email campaigns, like the Drumbeat Email Series, connect with just the right audience. This guide will walk you through using the Bulk Customer Upload feature to make customer onboarding and engagement even better!

How to upload customers in bulk

Step 1: Prepare your CSV file

Before uploading, create a CSV file with the required customer data. The file should include the following columns:

  • Email: A valid email address for each customer (required).

  • First name: The customer’s first name (optional but recommended for personalization).

  • Last name: The customer’s last name (optional).

Example CSV Format:

Email

First Name

Last Name

John

Doe

Jane

Smith

Step 2: Access the bulk upload feature

  1. Navigate to the Customer section.

  2. Click on the + new customer button, which provides a dropdown with the options to either Add new customer or bulk upload.

Step 3: Upload your CSV file

  1. Select the prepared CSV file from your computer.

  2. Review the file to ensure all required fields are present.

  3. Click Upload to begin the process.

Step 4: Validate the data

  • The system will validate your CSV file to identify duplicates or invalid email addresses.

  • Any errors will be flagged for correction, allowing you to update the file and re-upload.

Step 5: Confirmation and integration

Once the upload is complete:

  • Newly added customers are integrated into your database.

  • Emails are automatically assigned to the Drumbeat Email Series for consistent engagement.

  • A confirmation message will display the total number of successfully uploaded records.

Best practices for bulk uploads

  1. Ensure accuracy. Double-check email addresses and other fields to minimize errors.

  2. Use segmentation data. Include optional fields like demographics or purchase preferences for more targeted marketing.

  3. Maintain clean data. Regularly review and update your database to remove outdated or duplicate entries.

  4. Follow privacy guidelines. Ensure all uploaded emails comply with privacy laws like GDPR or CAN-SPAM.
