Product Statuses

Product statuses help explain whether an item is available to shop, temporarily unavailable, or no longer for sale.

Important: Changing a product status can impact the broader order and inventory workflow. Because statuses are tied to key system processes, incorrect updates may create operational issues or unexpected behavior. Please reach out before changing any product statuses.

Overview

Each product in the store has a status that controls how it appears to shoppers. A product’s status may also affect whether it can be purchased.

The main product statuses are:

  • Enabled

  • Disabled

  • Sold Out

  • Pre-Order

  • Archived

Enabled

Enabled means the product is active and will appear in any store where it is listed.

If the product’s stock level is 0 or below, it may still appear in the store, but it will display as Sold Out.

NOTE: Displayed stock availability is based on the current stock level. In some cases, products that have already been purchased but have not shipped yet may still be reserved for existing orders. Because of that, a product may appear available online even when part of its inventory is already committed.

Disabled

Disabled means the product will not appear in the stores where it is listed, even if inventory is available.

A product may be disabled for several reasons, such as:

  • it is no longer currently available

  • it is tied to a future launch

  • it is selling too quickly and needs to be temporarily hidden to prevent overselling

  • another merchandising or inventory-related reason applies

Sold Out

Sold Out means the product will still appear in the listed stores, but it will show as Sold Out and cannot currently be purchased.

This status may be used even if inventory exists behind the scenes. For example, a product may be marked Sold Out when it is selling very quickly and the goal is to prevent overselling while still letting shoppers know the item exists.

Pre-Order

Pre-Order means the product can still be purchased now, but it will ship at a later date.

The expected shipping timeline is based on the product’s ships-on date.

If an order includes a pre-order item, the order may be held until that pre-order item is available to ship.

Archived

Archived means the product has been retired and will not be sold again.

Archived products are no longer active selling items.

Common Questions

Why is a product showing as Sold Out if it used to be available?

A product may show as Sold Out because inventory has reached zero, or because it has been intentionally marked Sold Out to help prevent overselling.

Why can’t I find a product in the store even though it exists?

If a product is Disabled, it will not appear in the store, even if inventory exists.

Can I still buy a pre-order product?

Yes. Pre-order products can still be purchased, but they will ship later based on the listed ships-on date.

What is the difference between Disabled and Sold Out?

  • Disabled: the product does not appear in the store

  • Sold Out: the product still appears in the store, but cannot currently be purchased

What does Archived mean?

Archived means the product has been permanently retired and will not be sold again.
