Creating and using QR codes

Updated over 7 months ago

QR codes are such a fantastic way to engage your customers, boost those repeat purchases, and keep an eye on how your campaigns are performing! With Mash Commerce Cloud™, you can easily create QR codes that feature custom URLs and UTM parameters, making it simple to drive traffic to your store and monitor your results with ease.

How to create a QR code

Generate a URL with UTM parameters

  • Base URL: Start with the store URL or product URL you want to link (e.g., https://yourstore.com).

  • Add UTM parameters: Include UTM parameters to track the performance of your campaigns.

    • Example:

      arduinoCopy codehttps://yourstore.com?utm_source=tastingroom&utm_medium=qrcode&utm_campaign=spring2024
    • UTM parameters explained:

      • utm_source: Identifies the origin of the traffic (e.g., tastingroom, event).

      • utm_medium: Describes the type of marketing (e.g., qrcode).

      • utm_campaign: Names the specific campaign (e.g., spring2024).

Use a QR code generator

  • Input your URL with UTM parameters into any free QR code generator (e.g., QR Code Monkey, QRStuff).

  • Download the QR code in high resolution for print and digital use.

Test the QR code

  • Scan the QR code with your phone to ensure it redirects to the correct URL.

  • Check that the UTM parameters are properly recorded in your analytics.

Where to use QR codes

On bottle labels

  • Add QR codes to your bottle labels to encourage repeat purchases.

  • Include a call-to-action like:
"Scan to Buy Again!" or "Explore Our Collection Online!"

In tasting rooms

  • Use QR codes on table tents, menus, or near checkout areas.

  • Examples:

    • "Scan to Purchase Your Favorite Bottle!"

    • "Learn More About Our Award-Winning Spirits!"

  • Train your tasting room staff to encourage customers to scan the QR codes during visits.

At events

  • Use QR codes on posters, flyers, or signage at trade shows, festivals, or promotional events.

  • Examples:

    • "Scan to Order Online!"

    • "Join Our Mailing List for Exclusive Deals!"

In Marketing Content

  • Add QR codes to print ads, brochures, or even social media posts to guide customers directly to your store.

  • Example: "Scan to Discover Limited-Time Offers!"

Best practices for QR codes

  • Include clear store policies: Wherever you display QR codes, include information about store policies like shipping, returns, or terms and conditions to manage customer expectations.

  • Make it actionable: Pair your QR code with a clear call-to-action, such as "Scan to Buy," "Learn More," or "Order Now."

  • Keep it accessible: Ensure the QR code is easy to scan by printing it at a size large enough for customers to use comfortably.

  • Monitor performance: Use UTM parameters to track how well each QR code campaign performs in your analytics dashboard.

Training your team

Train your staff to:

  • Encourage customers to scan QR codes and explain how they work.

  • Highlight benefits like quick access to store information or exclusive offers.

  • Use QR codes during checkout to remind customers to repurchase online.

Why QR codes work

  • Convenience: Customers can access your store with a simple scan, increasing the likelihood of repeat purchases.

  • Trackable performance: UTM parameters let you see how effective your QR codes are at driving traffic and sales.

  • Versatility: QR codes work for bottle labels, tasting rooms, events, and even print materials.

Next steps

  1. Add to materials: Place QR codes on bottle labels, tasting room materials, and event signage.

  2. Monitor results: Use analytics to evaluate the success of your QR code campaigns.
